Training Through Winter
We all know that as the weather gets cooler we all tend to stay indoors and hibernate a little more. But did you know it's just as important to continue your training during the cooler months of Winter as it is any time of year.
Continuing to train during winter has numerous benefits for both physical health and overall well-being. Here are several reasons why it's important to maintain your training routine even during the colder months. First let’s have a look at your Physical Health, regular exercise boosts the immune system, helping to fend off common winter illnesses like colds and flu this means less sick days for you! Maintaining physical activity maintains and improves cardiovascular health, reducing the risk of heart disease. And lastly weight management. Winter often brings holiday indulgences. Regular exercise helps maintain a healthy weight.

What about your Mental health? Exercise can alleviate symptoms of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and other forms of depression, which are more common during the winter due to reduced sunlight. It is also a great stress relief. Physical activity reduces stress and anxiety, promoting a sense of well-being.
Training over the winter helps to maintain your gains! Stopping training can result in loss of muscle mass, strength, and cardiovascular endurance. Continuing to train helps maintain these gains. This is a perfect example of why we put on a Winter Warrior Challenge during the cooler months! Have you jumped on it this year? If not, consider it next year to keep the gains you have accomplished the rest of the year. Regular exercise prevents the loss of fitness levels, making it easier to continue progressing toward fitness goals.
Maintaining a regular exercise routine fosters discipline and consistency, which are key for long-term fitness success, so why stop or change your routine when the cooler months hit? Continuing to train through the winter helps solidify exercise as a habit, making it easier to stick with throughout the year.
Group exercise classes, or simply working out with a friend can provide social interaction, which is beneficial for mental health, especially during the isolation that winter can bring. So training in the cooler months has huge benefits that could help keep you on track towards your goal. Why slow down as the weather gets cooler? Always remember, Summer bodies are made in Winter!
